Hi, me again.
You know long words in German like Berufsinformationsveranstaltung and Hoechsgeschwindigkeitsbegrenzung, well, they seem to made up of other words. But sometimes some words that also look like they could be put together to make a single word, aren't done so. Why is that? How do you know when you have to stick them together and when not? If I should write them separately, would it be considered incorrect?

could someone please translate this sentence?
Glauben sie an Horoskope? (I understand this part, just thought it might be useful for the second sentence) Nein, ich auch nicht, jedenfalls nicht so richtig - nur wenn darin steht, dass ich einzigartig und aufregend sei und mir lauter wunderbare Dinge winkten.
Why did the author use nicht so richtig there? What does it have to do with what she's saying?
And I also don't understand nur wenn darin steht.
And I don't understand the rest of sentence either. I can find the words from the dictionary, but when I put them together, I can't seem to get a meaning out of it. Is it sort of abstract?

Hallo zusammen!
Ich weiss nicht, ob's ich hier fragen darf, aber ich versuche es mal. Ich interessiere mich sehr für die deutsche Literatur und möchte jetzt gerne wissen, was ihr mir empfehlen würde! Ich lese ziemlich gut Deutsch, brauche fast nie ein Wörterbuch, also alles ist für mich interessant. Ich lese gerne psychologische Romane (ist das auch die deutsche Bennenung für das Genre?), aber auch Bücher für Kinder und Jugendliche, fantasy, Märchen, Theaterstücke usw. Ich lese sowohl moderne als ältere Bücher, aber vor allem Empfehlungen für moderne Romane wären toll, denn mit denen bin ich nicht so bekannt.
Deutsche Bücher, die ich gelesen habe und mir gut gefallen haben:
- Die Welt von Gestern - Stefan Zweig
- Fräulein Else - Arthur Schnitzler
- Siddharta - Herman Hesse
- Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum - Heinrich Böll
- Der Vorleser - Bernhard Schlink
- Adler und Engel - Juli Zeh
Ich habe schon Pläne mehr von diesen Schriftsteller zu lesen. Was würdet ihr weiter noch empfehlen? Danke schön im Voraus! (Wenn ich Fehler gemacht habe, scheut ihr bitte nicht, sie zu verbessern!)

There’s A New Chef in Town

It will run you about 600 bones, but I don’t want to hear it. Oh, don’t give me that look – I’ll have my sous chef wash out the pot.
Second, what’s with the beans? Don’t get me wrong, I’m brilliant, so I’ll be able to whip up something exquisite for your guests, but where’s the veg? Would something a little leafy in the pantry kill you? And don’t get me started on your electric cook top. I don’t know how you expect me to cook in these conditions.

I Am Not Disorganized!

- I always wash myself in a set pattern (right leg, left leg, right arm, left arm);
- I sort my dead mousies by length, then by color, then by tail-to-torso ratio;
- I sleep in the same sunbeam every day, using a weighted algorithm factoring seasonal solar variance against known shade points to determine each day’s optimum floor position and angle of exposure.
So why do people keep saying I’m disorganized?

German Writer's Aids
I'm pretty happy to have found this forum. I have a backlog of questions. Ich werde ihnen langsam auspumpen.
(I wanted to try using the word auspumpen. Should I have used "sie" up there? It's been a long time since my language classes.)
Do Germans remember the genders of all of their nouns? Do writers keep dictionaries at their sides with lists of words, cases, and genders? Do German word processors have grammar checkers that will flag something if, for instance, the writer types "gutes wein" instead of "guter wein"?
I keep hoping that, if I read enough, some things will just seem natural and I won't have to worry so much about remembering rules.
